The Process










First, you and a partner (assigned by your teacher) will use the map to guide your way through your town to find where the treasure lies.  Read through the websites listed for Helen Keller, Harriet Tubman, Martin Luther King, Jr. and Thomas Edison to answer the questions below.  Follow the directions for the correct answer to go through the town.

Now that you have found where your treasure lies, you and your partner need to construct a memorial to one of the four people we've studied.  Your memorial could be a poster, mural, time capsule or some other type of display that will be placed up in the front of the building where you stopped.  Be sure your display includes reference to at least 3 major accomplishments of the person you chose and why it was important.  These things should be mentioned when presenting your Memorial to the class.
 

In all classes, there is a student or two who love to go the extra mile.  For just such a case, an Extended Activity was designed.  The students will be asked to re-create a similar activity for someone else to do.  They will need to research their own famous American, design questions, answers, and a map to navigate through.
