SCIENCE CLASS INFORMATION

Supplies needed for Science: a folder of some type for notes, this folder will be turned in at the end of each quarter for a grade. The only other supplies needed are paper and pen/pencil.
Entering the classroom: Come in quietly, sit down in your assigned seat, get your materials ready for class. Check both boards for information that may be posted. You may not return to your locker for materials after the tardy bell rings.

Class Expectations

Prepared: Students should be prepared for class. Each day students should bring their notebook, pen or pencil and textbook to class.

Respect: Students will be expected to show respect for themselves, other students, the teacher and classroom materials.

Participation: It is important that students participate in class discussions and in lab activities.

Directions: Following directions is important in all areas but especially in science as spills or other accidents can occur in lab activities if directions are not followed.

Responsibility: Students will be expected to show responsibility by completing assignments, obeying the rules in the student handbook and following the other expectations listed above.
If you choose to break a rule, a verbal warning will be the first consequence. The second time, you may be given a writing assignment consequence or be moved to another area of the room. The third offense will result in a written referral to the office. A severe disruption will result in an immediate referral to the office.

Grades -----  Five components will be used in determining a student’s science grade.

1.Science Notebook : the completed notebook will be worth 100 points at the end of the quarter. This is an all or nothing grade. A few notes or papers will not be accepted. The student is responsible for keeping all materials in the science notebook. 2. Quizzes will be given during each unit of study, point value will vary. 3. Unit Tests: Each unit will have a 100 point final exam.  4. A Participation- Preparation grade:  Each day students receive 3 points for being on time and having the necessary materials for class. 5. Homework/classroom activity grades. Although there will not be a lot of homework in science class, there will be some. The amount of points will vary from assignment to assignment.

If a student is absent they have two days for every day absent to make up assignments. Only six absences each semester are excused by a parent note. A doctor’s note, or attendance at a funeral will also be an excused absence. Work missed during unexcused absences may be completed by the student but will be recorded as 0%.
