Process

Part 1. Students should put themselves into groups of three. Brainstorm as a class to come up with cool ways to get into groups! Try to be done with this in ten minutes!

As a team of three, decide what things you, individually, will need to find out about while doing your research on one of the following
time periods below. Then, Under research below, work to answer your individual essential question.

Remember: To become an expert, you need to learn several (three or more) things about your topic. It might be a good idea for students who are researching the same thing to work together. You will need to get with students in other groups for this, and come back to your group when everyone's done.

Also, compare your research ideas with other groups. Did you forget anything? You can always add more stuff! That's what being an expert is all about!
(Note to teacher: This is jigsaw method)

1. Research.

2. Share with your group members.

3. Convince Francis N. Stein of his mistakes.

4. Plan Halloween Party.

Return to your group, and use your Note-taking journal to teach your group members the information you have discovered.  The Great Pumpkin is counting on you to help others in your group learn what they need to know about these time periods.

Remember to take notes in your journal when you meet with other specialists and when you are learning from your own group.

Convince Francis N. Stein Jr.(probably played by your teacher at this time) that his party plans are all wrong! Working with your team, make a three to five page power point project explaining the true origins of Halloween to Francis.

Remember, you are going to present this to Francis, so have good reasons for your authentic party! Have Fun!

The Great Pumpkin will fine tune your objectives, but you should include text, clip-art, and maybe even sounds!

Part 4

Plan a Halloween Party

You have convinced Francis N. Stein and beaten the other classrooms in the Halloween contest and have been given $5.00 per person to spend on an authentic Halloween party for your classroom. You need to make sure that the party follows at least one to all three time periods that you have studied up to now. You can make decorations, create posters, shop on-line (real or pretend), and create an authentic party to raise the dead, so to speak! Be sure to keep track of your spending on the planning sheet provided below!

Remember not to lose your head by going over your budget!!!

All students need two types of food or goodies, one drink, and at least one party favor. Your group can shop on-line for prices!

Your class needs to decorate authentically, and include games that are found in Halloween traditions. You need to plan three spooktackular authentic Halloween based games to insure you win the Halloween contest!

Planning Sheet (copy one off for yourself!)

Use these Links to help research authentic Halloween fun! Also ideas for grizzly games!
