News From The Classroom

For the week of

October 5, 2009

Again, I would like to welcome Miss Mitchell. She started today teaching the Social Studies lessons. Next week she will also be teaching math and spelling. I will still be here to guide her with the planning, but she will be the teacher and students will be expected to do the work that she assigns and follow all of the same rules that we have gone by all year.

In Math we will finish chapter 2 and take a test on Thursday. Miss Mitchell will begin a unit on measurement next week. She will be teaching from a book that uses the format for the MAP test.

Reading Counts Tests will be due on these dates:

October 12, 23, 30

It is the student's responsibility to check the books they are reading to be sure they are the correct level. The book will only be counted if it is within 100 points below the child's lexile. There will be no exceptions. Your child has written his/her lexile in the front of his/her planner. If students have not passed a test by the due date, they will miss recess to read until they are caught up.

In Social Studies, students will begin to read from Chapter 2. They will study the people and recreation of Missouri. Again, you should see the Social Studies book coming home each evening when we read in class.

Thanks for all you do to help our children to succeed. They say "It takes a village to raise a child". We appreciate you being part of our jungle village.

Mrs. Meredith
