Thanks to all fifth grade parents for attending Parent Teacher Conferences last week. I especially appreciate those parents who were flexible and came in on other days to accommodate the large number of students in the class. I enjoyed visiting with you about your child’s successes first quarter and look forward to implementing strategies to reach the goals we discussed. As always, if you ever have questions or concerns, please let me know.

Kudos to our Fall party sponsors: Leesa Clement, Amber Sloniker, and Tobie Bohannon. What a fun time in the fifth grade room today. The Winter party on Dec. 18 will be hosted by Donna Crawford, Jessi Keith, Kevin Volner, and MeMe Walker.

The class created some amazing collage posters for their October book report. These will soon be displayed. November’s book must be read and a quiz passed by November 13 and the new cover for their book must be designed by Nov. 30. Since December is a short month for us here at school, the book must be read and quiz passed by Dec. 11 and the friendly letter will be due on Dec. 18. Scoring guides will come home soon. Thanks to all the parents who support and encourage the reading of these Mark Twain award-winning books. Many in the class are well on their way to earning the sleepover and a trip to the literature festival. Keep up the good work.

Upcoming objectives include plants in science which will help to cover the Living Organisms strand, early explorers in social studies for strand 2, lots of multiplication and division for number and operations in math, A Year Down Yonder for R2C in reading, and writing complex sentences to hit all the W’s for Language.

The class if very excited about our “tailgate” basket for the silent auction. If you haven’t contributed an item or cash for me to shop with, please do so by Nov. 6. Equally important, I hope that some of you will get together some trivia teams for that fun evening. The committees have gathered an amazing amount of incredible prizes, and we look forward to your participation to make this first “fun”draiser a huge success!
