Dear 6th GradeParents,
We would like to take this opportunity to welcome you and your child to the 6th grade. We look forward to an enjoyable and productive.
How can I contact teachers at school?
Team Planning (1st hour) is an excellent time to call. We are available to visit with you from 8:00-8:30 on regular school days. The phone number is 324-3126. We encourage you to visit with us about any concerns you may have.
How do I know if my child has homework?
Your child has a planner where in-class and homework assignments are recorded for each subject. Upcoming test dates, book report due dates, and messages from us are written in this planner as well.
Your child will receive a grade in STAT for proper completion of their planner each day.
Please sign your child's planner every Thursday. We check for your signature on Friday. Without your signature, you child does not have the opportunity to attend Friday Fun Day.
What is STAT?
This is a 42 minute study hall at the end of the day for students to work on homework and receive help if needed. If your child uses the work time in class and STAT wisely, he or she shouldn't be burdened with a lot of homework that requires hours to complete.
How does my child use his or her free time?
Savannah Middle School policy requires each student to have an outside reading book with them at all times. They will read this book after assignments are completed in regular classes and STAT. Failure to have a book wtih them will affect their STAT grade and their opportunity to go to Friday Fun Day.
What does my child do if he or she is sick?
It is the student's responsibility to get their assignments that they missed while they were absent. They will have ONE day for each missed day to turn in their assignments. Make-up work can be picked up in the office the day of the absence or by the student upon their return.
As a reminder, per the Savannah Middle School Handbook, cell phones, I-Pods, toys, electronic gadgets, make-up and perfume will be confiscated until a parent comes in to collect them.
Thanks,
Tiffani Schneider
