Welcome Letter
Dear 6th grade parents,
Welcome back to a new school year. I’m sure the summer went as fast for you as it did for me. I hope everyone is well rested and ready to start a great new year. I am looking forward to getting to know both you and your child. I will be instructing your child in Language Arts and Social Studies. Mrs. Pasley will teach Math, and Mrs. Worthington will instruct them in Science.
Testing in all subjects will be used as a means of evaluation. Students can expect multiple choice, matching, true/false, fill-in-the-blank, essay questions, performance events, and group activities throughout the year.
Daily work will be due the following day from which it was assigned. It is to be turned in at the beginning of each class period. Your child will need to keep his/her assignments in a specified folder in their binder until time to turn it in. A student that fails to turn in an assignment by the specified time will receive a ZAP (Zeroes Aren't Permitted) form. He/she will then work on that assignment during his Pride time. If the late assignment is not finished during that time, he/she will make arrangements to stay after school to complete the assignment. The student’s grade, however, will be marked down because of the assignment’s tardiness. If the student does not turn in the paper within the stated time frame, they will receive a zero for that particular assignment.
Make-up work will be allowed in the case of an excused absence. A student who is absent should go to the office immediately upon returning to school for a copy of the assignment sheet and copies of the work he/she needs to make up. Students will be responsible for the absentee work. If you call ahead, make-up work may be picked up in the office at 3:00.
In order to receive a Reading Circle Certificate in the 6th grade a student must read 22 books from the 6th grade reading list. The books must be 14 fiction and 8 non-fiction. We also participate in the Pizza Hut Book-It program. To receive this award, your child must read 450 pages each month. (October through March)
Please feel free to contact me if you need to visit about something. My team planning time is 8:00-8:35 each day, and my personal plan time is 12:00-12:45 daily. I am looking forward to this school year as your child’s teacher. The school number is 324-3126. My e-mail address is rosters@mail.savannah.k12.mo.us.
Sincerely,
Sheri Roster
