The Process

1. First, you will be assigned to a panel of three.

2. Your first task is to clearly understand the definition of character and identify the six pillars of character. To do this you will visit the following websites. Each member of the group will choose two pillars of character and illustrate a situation that provides an example of this character trait. When each member has completed his/her illustration the group will share their work.

Next, you will visit the sites below that introduce you to different American heroes. You will find how good character has shaped these individuals.

4. Each member will choose one hero on the website above and fill out a hero study sheet. The group will meet and discuss how his/her person has lived by the six pillars of character.

5. Once you have tasks 1-4 completed, your job as an American Hero Talent Scout begins. Each member of the group will choose someone in the school community (teacher, cook, janitor, office staff, etc.) who displays good character and fill out the above hero study sheet on that person. From the three chosen candidates your group will have to decide on one contestant to continue to the "American Heroes" reality show.

6. As a group, create a list of questions to interview your candidate. Each member needs to write at least two questions. Make sure you include questions that reveal how he/she lives by the six pillars of character.

7. Interview your candidate. Make sure you explain why he/she is being interviewed.

8. Time to get creative! Design an award for this person using posterboard and the hero study sheet.

9. Using powerpoint, create a slide show that explains why this person deserves to be America's next Utimate Hero. Use the checklist when creating your slideshow.

10. Showtime! It is time to present your candidate to the studio audience so they may vote for the next "American Hero". Good luck! The chosen hero will be presented the award created for him/her in process #8.
