This lesson was developed as part of Missouri's eMINTS Project (enhancing Missouri's Instructional Networked Teaching Strategies).

The teacher will read aloud the book Boss of the Plains The Hat That Won The West. Students will design a hat in Paint for the 21st Century, write a friendly letter to a hat company and tell why John B. Stetson's hat was so useful to a cowboy in the American West, and include the reasons for why the new hat will be useful to the 21st Century.

Learners
The webquest was designed for third grade Communicatioin Arts and Social Studies. Students will need to know how to use Microsoft Word and Paint.

Social Studies:
Major elements of geographical study and analysis (such as location, place, movement, regions) and their relationships to changes in society and environment (SS5)
