Eldridge Extraordinary Stars
Shining Star Newsletter
In our classroom, we choose to make our day positive, productive and fun!
Our classroom newsletter, SHINING STAR  provides valuable information about "what's up" in our classroom.  It is intended to be a springboard for conversation with parents and students about our week.  It features upcoming events, reminders, projects, books and other information to keep you informed about your child's learning experience.

This week will be a great one!  Students are focused on learning, completing their assignments and doing their BEST each day.

We have a change in our daily schedule.  Our PE time on Mondays and Tuesdays  has been moved to 2:30 pm on Mondays and 2:00 pm on Tuesdays.  We are happy to accommodate this change for Mr. Ponzar to work with our Guffey track team.

The fourth quarter of our school year arrived with a cheer from the students.  They are all excited about the final ten weeks of learning.  It will not be long until the end of our year.  Are you ready to be smarter than a fifth grader?

MAP testing is just around the corner.  Our testing dates are listed on the April calendar.  Please make note of these dates.  During testing, it is very important for your child to be at school on time.  Additional test tips will be sent home in April.

Student Led Conferences
March 25, 2010

Student Led Conference confirmation sheets were sent home to you.  If you have not received your confirmed conference time, please contact me.  Remember, students will be leading their conference.  It is important for him/her to be present and take a lead role this event.  Conferences are scheduled every fifteen minutes.  We will be on a tight schedule that day.

Communication Arts

In Communication Arts, we are reading The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis.  This book is a wonderful literature selection for our classroom.  Students will be completing a number of learning activities and character panels which are coordinated with our grade level expectations.

Our next book project, Plotting the Plot will be due on March 26th.    Students received the project sheet on Monday March 8th.  I  provided materials to the students for this project.

Math

In math, we continue working with fractions, decimals and percents.  Each day, we spend time reviewing concepts that were taught earlier in the school year.  MAP tests are coming and we are ready!

Adoption of a Soldier

Our classroom has adopted a soldier.  Jordan Clark is the son of Mrs. Dawn Clark.  Currently, he is serving in Afghanistan.  Each month we will be sending him a package to brighten his day.  If you would like to donate an item for his care package, please review the list below and send it to school.  We are proud of all our soldiers and the sacrifices they make for our freedom.

Jordan's List

Microwave popcorn, trail mix, pretzels, Cardinal items, really warm socks, hand warmers, note cards

Your active participation in supporting your child this school year makes a difference in  his/her success.  If you have any comments or concerns,  please contact me.
